What to expect
Night paddling is a different sport from daytime paddling. Once the sun drops the lake goes glassy and quiet, the city lights come up behind you, and the LEDs under your board turn the water below into something you can actually see into. You’ll have your own illuminated paddleboard with a guide leading the group, so you get the solitude of paddling alone without actually being alone out there. No night experience needed — most people on these tours are trying it for the first time.
Where you’ll launch
We’re on Kew-Balmy Beach in Toronto’s Beaches neighbourhood, just east of the tennis courts. Launching straight off the sand means you’re on Lake Ontario within minutes of checking in — no roof racks, no portaging, no long walk to the water.
What to wear and bring
Wear something you don’t mind getting wet: shorts and a t-shirt, a tank top, yoga pants or swimwear all work well. Bring a towel, sunscreen, water and a change of clothes. Leave anything you’d hate to drop in the lake in the car.
Good to know before you book
All paddlers must be 18 or older and sign a waiver before heading out. Weekends fill up quickly, so booking ahead beats turning up and hoping. If there’s thunder or lightning we’ll ask you to rebook, and we sometimes close in high winds — conditions on the lake can differ a lot from conditions on shore, so call us at 416-553-4067 before you set out if the weather looks uncertain.
