Description

What to expect

A rental is just you, a board, and however long you want on the water — no schedule, no group. Our boards are wide and stable, which is what makes standing up achievable on a first attempt. Most people are upright within a few minutes; starting on your knees and working up to it is completely normal. If you’d like coaching before you go out, ask about a private lesson when you check in.

Where you’ll launch

We’re on Kew-Balmy Beach in Toronto’s Beaches neighbourhood, just east of the tennis courts. Launching straight off the sand means you’re on Lake Ontario within minutes of checking in — no roof racks, no portaging, no long walk to the water.

What to wear and bring

Wear something you don’t mind getting wet: shorts and a t-shirt, a tank top, yoga pants or swimwear all work well. Bring a towel, sunscreen, water and a change of clothes. Leave anything you’d hate to drop in the lake in the car.

Good to know before you book

All paddlers must be 18 or older and sign a waiver before heading out. Weekends fill up quickly, so booking ahead beats turning up and hoping. If there’s thunder or lightning we’ll ask you to rebook, and we sometimes close in high winds — conditions on the lake can differ a lot from conditions on shore, so call us at 416-553-4067 before you set out if the weather looks uncertain.
